Top Five Advantages and Disadvantages of IXWebHosting
March 24th, 2010It’s difficult to find a secure, reliable web host – particularly one that can host ASP.NET applications. I’ve been hosting Celtic Kane with IX Web Hosting for a few years now, and I’ve been extremely happy with the services that they’ve provided.

Feather Ajax 1.0.2 Updates
July 20th, 2009It was pointed out to me that Feather Ajax version 1.0.1 no longer worked with current browsers (e.g. Firefox 3.5). This was due to a change in how Firefox 3.5 handled Ajax callback functions (see changelog for more details). I have since corrected the problem and released version 1.0.2.
S-Video TV Out with Ubuntu 9.04
July 10th, 2009I have an older machine that I recently converted into an Ubuntu 9.04 server for various needs. One of those needs is to play television shows or movies onto a TV via an S-video output. I did not want dual output or anything like that — I simply wanted a TV hooked into my machine. Unfortunately, unlike Windows XP/Vista, Ubuntu doesn’t automatically detect S-video output. To make the matter worse, I have an older ATI Radeon 9200 video card, which caused some drivers issues.
Javascript Speed Test – 2009 Browsers
July 10th, 2009The official Summer 2009 Javascript speed test results have been posted! Check them out under the “Test Results” section of the page. The conclusion: “Safari has taken the lead by performing about twice the speed of its nearest competitors, Chrome and Firefox. Opera, the once champion of the speed test, has fallen from its throne to the second-to-last position. Perhaps the most surprising is how much worse IE8 fared relative to its competitors — it was 2-3 times slower, but now is performing almost five times slower.”
Updates Complete!
March 31st, 2009Celtickane.com has officially been moved over to WordPress. I haven’t added any new content, but I have removed some older content that I didn’t feel belong anymore — if you’re looking for something that used to be here, but is now missing, contact me and I’ll consider re-adding it.
New Updates – Live
March 31st, 2009I wasn’t going to upload the new design and changes until they were complete, but it’s been three months since I first started a redesign (off-and-on), so I decided to just do it. As I have time, I’ll start 301 redirecting old pages to their new home within WordPress, removing some content, and perhaps adding a small amount of new content.
