Javascript Speed Test – 2009 Browsers

July 10th, 2009

The official Summer 2009 Javascript speed test results have been posted!   Check them out under the “Test Results” section of the page.  The conclusion: “Safari has taken the lead by performing about twice the speed of its nearest competitors, Chrome and Firefox.  Opera, the once champion of the speed test, has fallen from its throne to the second-to-last position.  Perhaps the most surprising is how much worse IE8 fared relative to its competitors — it was 2-3 times slower, but now is performing almost five times slower.”

Most of the results seem sane enough, with the exception of Safari…
I tried both Safari 4.0 and 4.0.3 and I am unable to match the performance of Chrome.
The Ajax-declarations take “ages”, so my total results for Safari is about 2x of Chrome, as in twice as slow….

I’m worried more about CPU utilization when using Flash with my browsers and guess which one is the most efficient? IE 8!!! Say it ain’t so :( I’m still not giving up on my FireFox.
